Yohan Poonawalla, the Chairman and MD of Poonawalla Engineering Group, is renowned for his exceptional taste in cars. His collection began in 1930 when the first family car, a Chevy in 1931, was gifted to him in the early ’90s. The first car he personally owned was in 2001 when he got married to Michelle Poonawalla, a car named Maharaja Panchkot Phantom 3, which still holds a cherished place in his garage “YZP Collection” . Yohan’s collection is adorned with numerous vintage cars, including Mysore cars, a 1933 Rolls Royce Phantom finished in Blue Bird Color, and a 1964 Lincoln Continental 4-door convertible. He acquires cars with a rich past history and unique specialties, making his garage a treasure trove of Rolls Royces, Ferraris, Bentleys, and other automotive gems.

All his Ferraris are finished in red, but in a recent interview, Yohan Poonawalla mentioned that he is planning to add new Ferraris in other colors to his garage, the “YZP Collection.” His collection spans from vintage to the most modern Ferraris. Here are some of the Ferraris he owns:

Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta

Those who follow Yohan Poonawalla on Instagram know that he has a soft spot for Ferraris. Among his impressive collection is the limited edition Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta. This extraordinary car is powered by a 4.5-litre V8 NA engine, delivering a maximum power of 597 Bhp and a peak torque of 540 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds. Poonawalla owns one of only 49 RHD units ever made. This limited-edition vehicle had a total production run of 499 units, with just 49 RHD models. The Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta is priced at over 4 Crore, underscoring its exclusivity and remarkable performance.

Ferrari Portofino

Another standout from the YZP collection is the Ferrari Portofino, an “entry-level Ferrari” priced at around Rs. 4.03 crore. This convertible features a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, delivering a maximum power of 598 Bhp and a peak torque of 760 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. The Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful convertible touring sports car produced by the Italian automaker, boasting a top speed of over 320 km/h.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Yohan Poonawalla is one of the very first owners of the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in India. This powerful machine is equipped with a 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine, renowned for its extreme exhaust note and outstanding performance. The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, priced at Rs. 4.48 Crore, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 340 km/h. Last but surely not least is the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider, which happens to be Poonawalla’s latest obsession. This Ferrari is powered by a 3.9-litre V8 engine with twin-turbochargers. It delivers a maximum power of 720 Bhp and a peak torque of 770 Nm, allowing the Pista Spider to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 2.85 seconds! With a top speed of 340 km/h, the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider is an extraordinary machine. Though it has been discontinued (2018 – 2020), its ex-showroom price was ₹ 5.30 crore, with an on-road price of ₹ 5.98 crore.

This special edition Gallardo, introduced in 2005, is a limited edition car with only 250 units ever made. Yohan Poonawalla acquired this particular example in 2002, and it has since undergone a meticulous “nut & bolt” restoration. Finished in a striking Bright Red and Yellow, it was originally delivered to the Maharaja of Mysore in 1949. In February 2020, this beautifully restored “Mysore 1” won Best-in-Class and Best-of-Show awards at the 21 Gun Salute Vintage Car Rally & Concours in New Delhi, showcasing its timeless elegance and historical significance.
